PLAYERS’CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Know the rules and play by them.
2. Always play safely and fairly.
3. Applaud all good play, by your own team and opponents.
4. Accept and abide by all umpires’ decisions on court, without argument.
5. Be polite to umpires at all times.
6. Treat all players as you would like to be treated.
7. Always encourage and support your teammates.
8. Shake hands with the opposition after the match and thank the umpires.
9. Co-operate with and be polite to your coach, manager and teammates at all times.
10. Be on time to training and games and ensure you have the right uniform and equipment, including short, smooth nails and no jewellery or adornments.

PARENT/GUARDIAN/SPECTATORS’ CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Be a model of good sports behaviour for your children to copy.
2. Encourage your child and other players to play according to the rules and the official decisions (and develop your own knowledge of the rules).
3. Applaud all good play by your daughter’s team and the opposition.
4. Never ridicule or scold a player for making a mistake during a competition or losing a game. Positive comments are motivational.
5. Do not make or call out disparaging remarks to anyone on court, including the umpires. Only the captain can approach the umpire and ask them to explain a rule, not tell them that the GS is pushing, for example.
6. Show respect for and be courteous towards your team’s coach, manager, the umpire and opponents. Without them there would be no game. Teach your children to do the same.
7. If you disagree with an umpire, coach or manager, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than question their judgement or decisions in public.
8. Focus on your child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists your child in setting realistic goals related to her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.
9. Teach your child that an honest effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
10. Do not go on court during the breaks in games to talk to your child. The team coach has limited time to give instructions and your presence may cause a delay, distraction or confusion.

COACHES’ CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Operate within the rules and spirit of netball, promoting fair play over winning at any cost.
2. Encourage and support opportunities for players to learn appropriate behaviour and skills.
3. Support opportunities for participation in all aspects of the sport.
4. Treat each player equally and as an individual.
5. Display control and courtesy to all involved with the sport
6. Respect the rights and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
7. Respect the decisions of umpires, officials and administrators in the conduct of the sport.
8. Wherever practical, avoid unaccompanied and unobserved one-on-one activity (when in a supervisory capacity or where a power imbalance will exist) with people under the age of 18 years.
9. Adopt appropriate and responsible behaviour in all interactions.
10. Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for your decisions and actions.
11. Ensure your decisions and actions contribute to a safe environment.
12. Ensure your decisions and actions contribute to a harassment-free environment.
13. Do not tolerate harmful or abusive behaviour.
14. Place the safety and welfare of the players above all else.
15. Help each person reach their potential – respect the talent, developmental stage and goals of each person and compliment and encourage with positive and supportive feedback.
16. During competition round matches, all players present (except if injured) must play at least half a game. During semi finals, finals and grand finals, the team that plays is at the discretion of the coach.
